OUR GALLERY PREMISES
We operate from a beautiful world class 2,000 sq ft gallery space in one of England's most recognisable buildings - the recently restored Fort Dunlop, just outside Birmingham. We've put some interior shots alongside. If you click on the button below, you will be able to view a range of other interior photographs.
We are striving constantly to be the best in the world at what we do, and take great care in selecting the work we put on show, and how we present it. You can read about some of our previous shows in the exhibitions section of this site. We have five or six specific exhibitions each year at the gallery. Our philosophy behind each one is simple and can be summed up in two words : Mach Schau. Make a show. When the Beatles were on stage at the Kaiserkeller in Hamburg in 1960, Bruno Koschmider, the owner, used to scream this at them. You've got to make a show for the people. We are in an "out of town" location, so if you make the effort to come and see us, we want you to feel that it has been worthwhile. When you walk through the gallery doors, the word we want on your lips is WOW.
We're conscious that not everyone's budget always stretches to a signed framed original limited edition photographic print. Don't give up on us though, as we have something for everyone at the gallery, including:
• A wide range of photography books, including lavish limited edition rock 'n' roll books by Genesis Publications
• The Art Vinyl range of quick-release play & display frames. These clever easy access frames enable you to create your own gallery of favourite album covers using the original LP's, change the display to suit your mood, and play the vinyl effortlessly.
• Classic vinyl. Hold onto your hats - vinyl is coming back. We couldn't have the Art Vinyl frames on show without filling them with something special, so we've teamed up with Sundazed Records to make sure we always have a supply of their classic reissues from the sixties and seventies on audiophile 180 gram vinyl.
ABOUT FORT DUNLOP
Fort Dunlop is one of the country's most talked about buildings. Disused for decades, the former Dunlop tyre factory is being converted into retail and office space by the award winning developer Urban Splash. Plans include a lift up to the roof where you can enjoy a coffee on the roof terrace. You'll be able to look with satisfaction on the traffic jams that you're not stuck in.
Fort Dunlop is situated 5 miles from Birmingham City Centre, 10 miles from Birmingham International Airport, and, by car, just two minutes from junction 5 of the M6 (if you're travelling north) or five minutes from junction 6 (you're travelling south). You can find full directions on how to find us in Contact section of the website or on the Fort Dunlop site www.fortdunlop.com.
Car parking is free, and there is a 100 room hotel bolted into the side of the building. If you're traveling a long way, why not say the night? Go to www.travelodge.co.uk for more information. A Lamborghini, Bentley and Lexus dealership is open next door to Fort Dunlop, and the Fort Shopping Park, two minutes drive away, has a range of other high street shops, so there is plenty to do and see close by as well.
