We know how exciting this is. I’m excited just typing out this sentence. We are conscious that many people want to see something before the start of the show, and so we are revealing details of the first exhibition photograph, available now to order online.
Sukita has selected an important photograph from his very first studio session in 1972 with David Bowie to include in the exhibition, and this is the photograph that we are making available to collectors to pre-order now. Sukita-san has titled this photograph Our True Story Began at The Rainbow Theatre. It is reproduced alongside.
The photograph has special significance for Sukita because it was chosen by David Bowie to blow up to a very large size and display in the foyer of the Rainbow Theatre for his concerts there on 19 and 20 August 1972. As Sukita explains: “I was very pleased about it. It proved that David-san really did like my work, and that was very important to me.”
If you were at The Rainbow Theatre concerts, maybe you remember the foyer? Scroll down and you will see a previously unreleased image from Sukita’s archives, showing the image blown up large.
Our True Story Began at The Rainbow Theatre is offered as a limited edition in two size options:
On 16 x 20 inch paper, an edition of 30 examples in this size.
On 30 x 40 inch paper, an edition of 10 examples in this size.
Each archival Lambda photograph is signed and numbered on the front under the image area by Masayoshi Sukita.
