When Masayoshi Sukita photographed David Bowie sitting in a cramped studio in Tokyo in April 1977, one of the images was chosen for the cover of “Heroes”.
It is not so well known that Iggy Pop was also in the room that day in Tokyo, and was also photographed at the same table. David Bowie and Iggy Pop were in Japan to promote Iggy’s debut solo album, The Idiot, and Sukita photographed both musicians during that trip.
That was his first meeting with Iggy, and it is a relationship that has lasted over forty years.
