AC/DC by Martyn Goddard
Details of four large format contact sheets from his first session with AC/DC
Martyn Goddard photographed AC/DC in 1976 during their first ‘Lock Up Your Daughters’ UK tour when they played five gigs at the Marquee Club. He remembers the July 1976 session well:
“This was the band’s first photo shoot in the UK. I was asked to photograph the band by WEA Records’ PR. They booked a studio session in my Kensington Church Street studio in late July as the Australian rockers were playing a residency at the Marquee. Our first meeting didn’t go to plan, as they weren’t up to participating, in less than half an hour Bon Scott had ripped the background paper to the floor and the session was over. WEA still needed more photographs of the band so the following week I arranged a photo-session on the back lot of Shepperton film studios in West London.”
“The old decaying film set on the back lot proved to be the perfect location, the band members had a great time acting out a scene bursting out of a bar after a fight. I tried to catch the action and used smoke bombs to enhance the photographs. The group enjoyed the shoot and the images reflect this. One notable touch was they brought along their own Led Zeppelin poster to rip up and over lay the AC/DC poster.”
Signed limited edition contact sheets now available.
Martyn is releasing four large format contact sheets from his session with AC/DC at Shepperton Studios.
Each contact sheet contains twelve photographs, arranged in a 3×4 format. Contact sheets are really interesting documents as they record the progress of a session, where the photographer explores ideas and layouts.
The AC/DC contact sheets are available in signed limited editions in a range of physical sizes—from 16×20 inches to 40×60 inches. In large formats, they give the viewer the opportunity to see each frame in detail.
Want all four? As an introductory offer, a purchaser of three different contact sheets will receive the fourth at no extra charge.
