The Fantastical Vinyl Factory
Limited editions that stretch reality
What’s this all about?
We recently made an enormous photograph of a rare and cherished yellow vinyl seven-inch promo single as a one off piece for a client. This was a photograph on a huge scale—a print on paper measuring a whopping 150 x 150cm (59 x 59 inches).
It looked absolutely spectacular. In part this was due to the sheer physical scale, but it struck me that much of the impact came from the fact that the coloured vinyl record that sat against a deep black background just looked so damn sexy. It made us want to create more beautiful artwork featuring coloured vinyl records, so that we could enjoy more of those glorious vibrant colours.
The Fantastical Vinyl Factory
The problem in practice was that the records didn’t actually exist in the range of colours we wanted to use in our colour palate. Well, we weren’t going to let reality get in the way of our plans—if the records didn’t exist we would find a way to create them. We started experimenting, and the results were everything we hoped for. We call it our Fantastical Vinyl Factory.
We hope you enjoy the first range of limited edition prints from The Fantastical Vinyl Factory — check them out below. Initial subjects include The Jam, Kate Bush, Bruce Springsteen, The Sex Pistols and The Clash. We will be adding more over time, and the factory gates are open for bespoke commissions.
The limited edition prints
The discs are presented on a black background, either individually or in groups of colours. Each physical print has a small white border around the black image area (this is helpful when framing), and is accompanied by a numbered COA to fix to the reverse of the frame.
