Ormond Yard London 1965 Gered recalls: "Shot just outside my Ormond Yard studio, this portrait of the band features two of  Britain's greatest guitarists; Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. I was very pleased to have captured the bowler hatted city type as he passed by in the background!"  There is certainly more than meets the eye in this picture. We actually think this photograph is a perfect example of one of Henri Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moments". Here's why. Well, it goes without saying that the band were posed by Gered, so its nothing to do with that. It's the fact that closer examination of what is going on in the background reveals a veritable microcosm of 1960's British society. Gered himself mentions the upper class gent in the bowler hat who appears between Keith Relf's legs, looking towards the camera. But look further back and see who is also there, also framed by the Relf thighs - it appears to be a working man in overalls and flat cap walking towards our bowler hatted friend. And then look to the right and see what's going on between Jimmy Page's legs...it's a genuine 1960s beat girl, nicely framed by a doorway she is passing. Prices are shown excluding VAT. The Who. They were great, I loved these guys. For me they were like cute little ruffians. They made me think of Dickens, of Oliver Twist, Fagins gang. - Art Kane Knowing that John Entwistle and Pete Townshend wore jackets made from flags, Kane decided to wrap them in a Union Jack: actually two, sewn together for the session. Initially they worked in his Carnegie Hall studio shooting on a seamless white background.  Subsequently Kane took the group to Morningside Park, near to NYC's Columbia University. Here he had them pose sleeping, against the base of the Karl Schurz monument. He wanted to show them as both irreverent and lovable in a devilish kind of way. The photograph was a homage to a Cartier-Bresson photograph of a vagrant asleep in Trafalgar Square. An underexposure in overcast conditions produced deeply saturated colours, causing the flag to jump out from the dark background.

Read all about Ben's work here This image is made as a Chromaluxe print. Chromaluxe printing is an archivally stable process that produces prints with outstanding depth and an ultra-high-gloss finish. The technique uses a process called dye sublimation to fuse the image directly on to a 1.2mm panel of white-coated aluminium. The resulting print has richly saturated colours and a jewel-like appearance.  A subframe on the reverse allows the print hang on the wall while appearing to float. Additional framing/glazing is not required (as ChromaLuxe has a scratchproof surface) but can be arranged as an option. ChromaLuxe prints are very light and are easy to ship. There are no additional shipping charges anywhere in the world. These are made to order - please allow three weeks between order and delivery.
